Big dreams start with little steps.

¡Hola! I'm Gilbert.

I’m Gilbert Hernandez, a bilingual elementary educator with 10 years of teaching experience in the Freeport School District. I have taught kindergarten and second grade in Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) and Dual Language settings.

Spanish was spoken in my home growing up, and I received English as a Second Language (ESL) services in elementary school. That experience shaped my patience, empathy, and understanding of what it takes to learn another language. I proudly embrace my Latino heritage and believe bilingualism opens doors to new opportunities.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Italian from Binghamton University and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education with an extension in Bilingual Education from Hunter College.

At Aprende con Gilbert, I welcome all K–5 learners, whether they need general elementary support or help developing English and Spanish language skills. I believe every child learns at their own pace and deserves patient, encouraging instruction tailored to their needs.
